Martin Wise, one of our Franchisees in Bristol who will photograph around 30 Weddings this year has commented as follows:

I’m told by a few videographers that their services are one aspect of the day that couples are doing without due to budget constraints. This is reflected in the fact I only really see videographers at large or Asian weddings. Uncle bob seems to do all the other weddings.

This has meant that the switched on ones are diversifying into photography. Although the disciplines are similar, the skill set and personal characteristics aren’t. Some are already shooting with DSLR equipment anyway so there is minimal additional outlay.

To date, I’ve yet to see anyone able to compete but it won’t take long for the best to bubble to the top.

Finally, English couples will not be restricted to ‘daylight hours’ for when they can have their wedding ceremony.  Although our celtic cousins have not been restricted, currently, wedding registrations cannot be after 6pm From October 2012, the only restrictions will be which venues (with a wedding licence) will be happy to offer extended hours to their clients.

Having seen some night shots that I include in my marketing, I have already had an enquiry about a 2013 wedding that will start with arrivals at 5pm, ceremony at 6pm and then go straight through into the evening with first dance at the usual 9pm and fireworks at 10:30. The one good thing is that I can book studio family & baby portraits from 9am to 3pm and still cover a full wedding.
